Come Watch a Class or a Rehearsal
Stuart Paton, co-founder and Artistic Director of Burlington Taiko Group, has devoted the past 25 years to performing and teaching taiko to children and adults here in the Burlington area and throughout New England. He is currently the primary instructor at the Burlington Taiko Space and his teaching style integrates the best of what he experienced as a child growing up in Tokyo with many successful strategies in American education. Some of the main tenets of his teaching are:
• Mutual respect
• Politeness
• Focus on Art form's needs
• Focus on group needs
Taiko is an art form that involves music, voice and movement. Each session of the beginning-level classes focuses on introducing the basic notes and movement of one taiko piece. Students should come to class in loose-fitting exercise wear—sweat pants and a t-shirt work well. All equipment is provided. No previous experience is necessary!
