Come study with members of Burlington Taiko Group!
In the Beginning Taiko classes students learn to play a simple but exciting
taiko melody and use this experience to understand basic taiko elements:
attitude, musical technique, kata (stance and movements of the arms and
body) and ki, the eastern philosophy of oneness with the life force.
In addition, participants are introduced to the history and cultural context
of taiko and will learn simple Japanese counting, greetings and dojo
etiquette.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing suitable for
unrestrained body movement. Classes are typically organized to teach a new
piece of music over the course of a six-week session.
After completing a number of beginning class series, students may continue
their education in the intermediate class with permission from the
instructor. Participation in the performing group is by invitation.
NOTE: Kids class walk-ins are welcome for the first 2 classes of a session.
Adult walk-ins are always welcome!
